THE TEACHERS

The teaching team of SOMA is constituted by teachers certified by Body-Mind Centering ®. They share numerous years of teaching and from practice of the BMC ® and possess a wide range of work experiences in the domains of the art, the somatic education and the support of the person.

Each of the programs is coordinated by the educational codirectors:
- Janet AmatoLulla Chourlin and
Anne Garrigues for Somatic Education Movement (SME) and the Practitioners,
- Janet Amato and Anne Garrigues for Infant Developmental Movement Education (IDME).

Janet Amato

Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner and Teacher

Janet is Educational Co-Director of SOMA, Co-Administrator of the Infant Developmental Movement Education Program and Somatic Education Movement. In this context, she draws upon her experience as a certified Somatic Movement Educator, Practitioner and Teacher of BMC®, specializing in infant developmental movement. Since 2005, she has been teaching in BMC® certification programs across Europe.
Janet is also a dancer and choreographer, and from 1982 to 1991 performed with the Greek National Opera dance company in Athens. Since 1992, she has lived in Paris, where she teaches and pursues her own dance research and creations. Her artistic career has been deeply influenced by her meeting and working with Jerome Andrews (dancer, choreographer, and student of Joe Pilates), Solange Mignoton and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen (founder of BMC® in the USA).

Janet is also certified in the Pilates method, and in Reiki II. She has studied the art of Craniosacral and the biodynamic approach with Dr. William Martin Allen, Ph.D.DDO. for 20 years. She draws upon a wide range of professional experiences, as a dancer, BMC® teacher, BMC® practitioner and Pilates teacher. She has maintained a private practice since 1989.

Lulla Chourlin

Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner and Teacher

Lulla co-directs SOMA’s Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner Program. She trained in the United States, and was certified in 1998. 

Between 1999 and 2014, in partnership with the Astragale Dance Company based in Besançon, Lulla brought into form and then directed the ‘Art du mouvement expérimental’ Somatic Education Training Program, as an inquiry into the relationship between somatic practices and dance. She regularly teaches BMC® and dance improvisation in a number of cities across France, as well as with the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Regional Conservatory, equally based in Besançon. Lulla also works as a choreographer with the Astragale Dance Company, with whom she creates interdisciplinary performances and productions. She is currently working on an Instant Composition process, in collaboration with a group of amateurs and professionals.

Anne Garrigues

Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner and Teacher

SOMA Administrative and Educational Co-Director
 

Anne is Educational Co-Director of SOMA and Co-Administrator of the Infant Developmental Movement Education Program. She teaches regularly in School for Body-Mind Centering® Programs throughout Europe. She works as a BMC® Practitioner in Grenoble, supporting adults of all ages, families with their babies, and children with special needs, through one-to-one, individual sessions. In September 2017, she created the ‘Jardin et Mouvement’ studio and practice center, which hosts somatic movement education and conscious movement classes and workshops.

Anne has been a dance choreographer for 25 years. Today, she works with professional and amateur dancers, children and vulnerable population groups, and takes a deeply somatically-influenced approach to the transmission of dance. She is involved in a number of peer exchange facilitation processes, and actively participates in two European projects: SPARKS (Somatic Practices, Arts and Creativity for special needs) exploring a somatic approach to disability, and LEAP (Learn, Exchange, Apply, Practice) exploring the transmission of dance.

Thomas Greil

Practitioner and Teacher of Body-Mind Centering®

Teacher for Infant Developmental Movement Education

 

Thomas has been teaching in professional trainings of BMC® (SME, PP and IDME) since 2003, and in France since 2006. He is a co-founder of SOMA and was for many years the education director of SOMA. End of 2017 after moving to Italy, he stepped back from his responsibilities. He is still coordinating with Lulla Chourlin the BMC Practitioner program in France. He studied with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen in the US over many years. His passion for research in movement, touch and bodily expression led him to take an interest in neuro-motor development in childhood, the ways in which movement and perception are built in the emotional, social and cultural context. He works with families, babies, children and people with disabilities.

Since 2016 he lives in Salerno, Italy where with Carla Bottiglieri has created minima somatica, a nucleus of research and somatic practice, which investigates other forms of circulation and sharing of body knowledge.

Anne Expert

Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner and Teacher

 

Anne Expert is a Certified Teacher and Practitioner of Body-Mind Centering®, a Registered Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist (ISMETA).

Since 2003, she is involved in developing and sharing embodied presence and expression through artistic projects, professional trainings, workshops and private practice. She works with dance and theatre schools and universities, has taken part and directed performance projects in dance and Contact Improvisation in Lyon, France. She teaches in European BMC® Certification Programs since 2013.

In France, she founds a training in somatic practices based on Body-Mind Centering®, together with Authentic Movement and Contact Improvisation, Matières, Arts Somatiques, addressed to professionals in the fields of arts, education, health and environment. She has a background in aikido and tai chi, an extensive practice in meditation, a special interest and sensibility for embryology and biodynamic approaches.

Marie Christine Plion

Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner and Teacher

 

Marie Christine is a contemporary dancer and dance teacher, certified in Functional Analysis of the Dancing Body (Analyse fonctionnelle du corps dans le mouvement dansé - AFCMD) in 1992. Her dance and teaching experience give her a solid foundation in anatomy, physiology and movement analysis. She trained in BMC® with SOMA from 2006 to 2010, under the supervision of Vera Orlock, Lulla Chourlin, Thomas Greil and Janet Amato as her main teachers. She became a BMC® Teacher in 2012, and now specializes in Infant Developmental Movement Education. She regularly supervises parent-baby groups and transmits BMC® to a wide audience of people of all ages, in both amateur and professional settings. She has been a member of SOMA’s teaching faculty since 2012, teaching in both the Somatic Movement Education Program, and, in particular, in the IDME Program.

Nadia Vadori-Gauthier

Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner and Teacher
Artist, PhD (Esthetics, Université Paris-8)

 

Trained in dance, theater, and visual art, specialist in movement practices.
Her current research subjects, based on the implementation of a theoretical-practical continuum, concern different thresholds of perception and representation in the creative process, with the goal of producing an art that maintains its connection with life and establishes new collective arrangements between artists, spectators, and environments..
Since January 2015, she has been running a daily performance art project : One Minute of Dance a Day.
